TTU Defeats Blue Raiders on Tuesday

Ninth inning rally just short in 15-11 loss

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee attempted a comeback as it scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning but it was not enough as Tennessee Tech took the 15-11 win.

The Blue Raiders (10-8-1) rallied in the bottom of the ninth as freshman Bryce Brentz hit a two-run home run, his seventh of the season, to add two runs and close the gap 15-9. Then freshman Hunter Dawson had an RBI triple to right field to bring in another run and senior Zach Barrett added one more with his third single of the night to cut the lead to four, 15-11.

Freshman PJ Francescon took the loss on the mound as he pitch a third of an inning allowing nine runs on five hits in the start.

TTU (15-7-1) took a nine run lead in the top of the first before the Blue Raiders settled down and outscored the Golden Eagles 11-6 the rest of the game.

The Blue Raider used eight pitchers in the game as the bullpen allowed six runs on 14 hits with five base on balls and three strikeouts.

Barrett ended the day 4 for 6 with three RBI and saw assistance from junior Rawley Bishop who added a grand slam to put the Blue Raiders within striking distance. Junior Nathan Hines, freshman Bryce Brentz and sophomore Grant Box each added two hits for Middle Tennessee in the game.

Barrett's single to the short stop in the bottom of the second put the Blue Raiders on the board as Brentz scored from third base.

The Golden Eagles added three runs on three hits in the top of the third to extend their lead 12-1. TTU added another run in the top of the fourth to take a 12 run lead.

Barrett singled again in the fourth to score - Bishop stepped up with the bases loaded tow outs and hit a grand slam to cut TTU's lead to seven.

Middle Tennessee added another run in the bottom of the fourth on a double by Box.

The Golden Eagles scored one run in the seventh and eighth innings to increase its lead 15-7.

Middle Tennessee will be back in action on Wednesday, March 26 when it travels to Nashville, Tenn., to face Vanderbilt at 6 p.m.
