McLure Powers Blue Raiders to 8-2 Win
Look for the sweep against Austin Peay in final game of doubleheader
March 26, 2008 · David PowellMT sophomore Lindsey Vander Lugt (6-9) made her 15th start of the season in the win. The lefty gave up two runs and scattered seven hits while striking out one in the complete game.
Meagan Williams (0-7) picked up the loss for the Lady Governors. The sophomore gave up three earned runs on four hits while walking two in 2.2 innings.
Ashley Elrod gave up five runs on eight hits, while striking out one in 3.1 innings of relief for the visitors.
The Blue Raiders blew open the scoring with four runs in the 3rd inning McLure nailed a one-out single to third base before Corrie Abel reached on an error by Austin Peay shortstop Brittany Williams. Martha Davis smashed a two RBI single to right-center field to give MT a 2-0 advantage.
Davis was two-for-three with three RBI for Middle Tennessee.
Whittney Darlington singled to right to put two runners on base before Justine Cerda hit an RBI single to center field scoring pinch runner Kandra Singleton.
Whittney Padgett drove in Darlington to make it 4-0 with a sacrifice fly to deep left field.
Austin Peay pulled a run back in the 4th inning when Ashley Alverson hit a RBI infield single to shortstop Brittney Banania and make it 4-1
Middle Tennessee added two more runs in the bottom of the 4th when Banania crushed an one-out double to left-center field.
After Cline advanced the freshman to third base with a fly out to deep right field, McLure was on hand to smash an RBI single to left field. Abel drove in McLure with an RBI single to make it 6-1.
McLure finished the game 4-for-4 with a RBI, three runs scored and two stolen bases.
Austin Peay cut the Blue Raider lead to 6-2 before Middle Tennessee rounded out the scoring in the bottom of the 6th inning. Davis and Darlington were on hand to drive in the runs and put the home team firmly ahead 8-2.
