MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee's track teams head to the Yellowjacket Invitational in Atlanta, Ga., Saturday for the second outdoor meet of the season. The Blue Raiders won eight events at last week's Clemson Relays, including five field events and three relays.

This weekend's meet at the George C. Griffin Track on the Georgia Tech campus calls for good weather and strong field, including Georgia State, Georgia, Louisville, Kentucky, Connecticut, Michigan, Clemson, Tennessee, Tulane and Vanderbilt as well as the host Yellowjackets.

"Now we start trying to get in some of our individual events after running a bunch of relays last week," head coach Dean Hayes said. "We'll start the steeplechasers and the 800 and 1500, trying to get it together now.

"It's not an overwhelming meet because it's only about 10 teams, but it's good competition. It'll give us a chance to see where we stand."

Sophomore Sarah Nambawa was voted Sun Belt Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday after winning the long jump and triple jump at Clemson. She won the long jump with a mark of 19-1.5 and the triple jump with a mark of 42-5.5 and was also a member of the winning 4x400-meter relay that finished in 3:52.71. It was the third SBC accolade for Nambawa in the last two years outdoors.

Sophomores Brittany Cox and MeLyn Thompson also posted victories in field events.

Cox won the hammer throw with a mark of 161-1, placed second in the shot put with a mark of 44-2.5 was second in the javelin with a mark of 96-5. Thompson won the shot put with a mark of 45-7 and placed third in the hammer throw with a mark of 129-1.

Carl Morgan was the lone winner for the men, triumphing in the triple jump with a mark of 48-2.75 and also placing fourth in the javelin with a mark of 173-11.

The women's 4x1500-meter relay of freshman Marla Bailey, sophomore Zamzam Sangau, senior Marjorie Gombert and junior Ashley Comstock set a school-record in winning with a time of 19:45.74.

The distance medley relay of Comstock, junior TraMayne Gillyard, Gombert and Sangau won in 12:34.46, while the 4x400-meter relay of senior Antranette Stringer, Nambawa, Gillyard and Sangau placed first in 3:52.71.
