Blue Raiders Win 2-1 over Louisiana-Monroe
Pick up fourth SBC victory on season
March 30, 2008 · David PowellThe game was originally scheduled for 1 PM on Saturday, but due to poor weather conditions it did not begin until 5:01 PM on Saturday evening. The contest lasted only five outs as the game was halted at 5:21 PM with the Blue Raiders leading 2-1. The Warhawks took an early lead before Corrie Abel nailed a two run homerun to put the hosts in front.
Lindsey Vander Lugt (8-9) picked up the win for the Blue Raiders. The sophomore gave up just one earned run on six hits, while striking out four in 7.0 innings.
Kandace Causey (4-8) got the loss for the visitors. The righty gave up two runs on five hits, while striking out seven and walking four in the complete game outing.
Middle Tennessee had a chance to widen their lead in the 4th inning when Katie Mielke nailed a two-out double to left field.
Brittney Banania was hit by and pitch and advanced to second base on a Causey wild pitch but Ashley Cline flied out to the shortstop to end the inning.
Katie Mielke was 2-for-2 with two stolen bases for the Blue Raiders.
Martha Davis provided the Blue Raider defensive highlight of the season as she made a spectacular diving catch off sharply driven shot to right field and threw to first base for the double play, ending the game.
