MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee's women's team cruised to a 7-0 win over rival Western Kentucky on Friday afternoon.
The Blue Raiders began the match by sweeping the doubles point and never looked back. Seniors Claudia Szabo and Ann-Kristin Siljestrom defeated Krystal Brown and Brittany Waiz 8-0 to begin the match.
Then freshman Shannon Hartmann and Pooja Kommireddi clinched the point with their 8-1 win over Carrie True and Leanne Caplinger. Junior Marlene Chemin and sophomore Stephanie Parkison rounded out doubles with their 8-2 win over Marija Djuran and Erin Fulkerson.
Middle Tennessee continued to dominate the Hilltoppers in singles play. Chemin got things started as she defeated True 6-1, 6-1. Then Szabo made it 3-0 with her 6-1, 6-0 win over Djuran.
Siljestrom clinched the match for the Blue Raiders as she defeated Fulkerson 6-1, 6-1.
Juniors Pooja Kommireddi and Andrea Herrera and freshman Shannon Hartmann each won their matches to preserve the shutout over Western Kentucky.
Kommireddi defeated Brown 6-0, 6-0 while Hartmann won her match 6-0, 6-1 over Caplinger. Herrera wrapped up the action as she topped Waiz 6-2, 6-1.
The Blue Raiders will be back in action on Saturday, April 5 at 11 a.m. against Marshall at the Buck Bouldin Tennis Center. It is the last home match for the Blue Raiders who will honor three seniors before the match. Admission to all home tennis matches is free.
