Blue Raiders Drop Game Two 4-2
Hudson and Burnett each notch two hitsApril 5, 2008 · MT Media Relations
The Blue Raiders (13-13-1, 6-7) are now split 1-1 in the series with UL-Lafayette (13-15, 6-8) and will play the rubber game on Sunday at 12 p.m.
Junior Brett Smalley took the loss as he pitched one-third of an inning allowing three runs on four hits. Sophomore Kenneth Roberts received the start on the mound and pitched five shutout innings allowing just four hits.
UL-Lafayette's Hunter Moody took the win on his way to setting the career wins record as he improved to 5-2. Moody allowed just two runs on eight hits in eight innings of work.
"Kenny Roberts pitched five very good innings and I thought it was ok to go to the bullpen but obviously it wasn't Brett Smalley's inning. We just could not do anything with Moody. He just dominated out top part of the order which he has done to a lot of clubs this year," head coach Steve Peterson said.
At the plate, sophomore Zach Hudson and freshman Tyler Burnett were each 2 for 4 in the game. Hudson had one RBI while Burnett scored one run as they were the only Blue Raiders to post more than two hits in the game.
"I though Zach Burnett had a good solid day which is really a plus for us headed into tomorrow. Right now he is swinging the bat well and not striking out much," Peterson said.
Middle Tennessee scored first in game two as Burnett scored from third on a single by sophomore Blake McDade taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third.
The Blue Raiders added another run in the bottom of the fourth as Hudson doubled to centerfield to score freshman Bryce Brentz from first.
Scott Hawkins took the lead away from the Blue Raiders with his three-run shot to left field to put UL-Lafayette up 3-2 in the top of the sixth.
The Ragin' Cajuns added another run on a wild pitch by senior Brad Robinson which allowed Blaine LaFleur to score from third.
Middle Tennessee will play wrap-up its three-game series with the Ragin'Cajuns on Sunday, April 6 at 12 p.m.
