Blue Raiders Fall 6-1 to Marshall

Kommireddi posts only win for Middle Tennessee

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee's women's tennis team fell 6-1 to No. 60 Marshall in its final home match of the season.

Marshall began the match by sweeping the doubles point. Junior Marlene Chemin and sophomore Stephanie Parkison fell to Kellie Schmitt and Karolina Soor 8-1. Then the Thundering Herd won the point as freshman Shannon Hartmann and junior Pooja Kommireddi lost their match 8-3 to Jessica Keener and Yulia Kashelkina.

Seniors Ann-Kristin Siljestrom and Claudia Szabo were defeated 8-6 in the final doubles match by Isabell Raich and Jeanne Schwartz.

In singles action, Schmitt defeated Siljestrom in No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-1. Junior Andrea Herrera lost her match 6-1, 6-0 to Marshall's Keener, while Soor topped Szabo 6-4, 6-1 in No. 3 singles.

The Thundering Herd's Raich defeated Chemin 6-4, 6-1 in No. 4 singles as Kommireddi won her match 6-0, 7-6 (4) against Kashelkina to give Middle Tennessee its only win. Rounding out play was Parkison who fell 6-0, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6) to Schwartz. The Blue Raiders will be back in action on Saturday, April 12 when they travel to Troy, Ala., to play conference rival Troy University.
