Track Teams Head to Knoxville, Nashville This Weekend

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- Middle Tennessee track teams will split up this weekend, with 17 members headed to the Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville and the remaining 15 athletes headed to the Boston-Moon Classic in Nashville.

The Sea Ray Relays at Tom Black Stadium in Knoxville is one of the largest meets in the country featuring more than 60 teams from around the nation. For the Blue Raider women, junior Maite Cortin and sophomores Brittany Cox and MeLyn Thompson will all participate in the throws, while sophomore Sarah Nambawa and freshman Kortney Thurman will both take part in the long jump and triple jump.

For the men junior Carl and senior Carlos Morgan will both participate in the long jump, triple jump and javelin, while junior Samuel Adade will run the 100-meters and sophomore DeRay Sloss will take part in the 110-meter hurdles. The men will also run the 4x100 and 4x200-meter relays, and both the men and women will participate in the 4x1500 and distance medley relays.

Teams scheduled to participate at the Sea Ray Relays include: Alabama, Ashland Univ., Bellarmine Univ., Bryan College, Carson-Newman, Cedarville Univ., Central Michigan, Charlotte, Chattanooga, Columbia Univ., Cornell, Delaware State, East Tennessee, Eastern Kentucky, Eastern Michigan, Ferris State, Gardner-Webb, George Mason, Georgetown, Illinois State, Indiana, Indiana State, Kennesaw State, Kentucky, Kentucky State, Lee Univ., Lees-McRae College, Marquette, Mars Hill College, Marshall, Middle Tennessee, Milligan College, Montreat College, N.C. State, North Carolina A&T, Olivet Nazarene, Ohio State, Radford, Rutgers, Samford, San Diego State, Seton Hall, Shorter College, Southeast Missouri, Tennessee, Toledo, UAB, Alabama-Huntsville, Union College, Cincinnati, Connecticut, Illinois, Louisville, Memphis, Pittsburgh, Wisconsin, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Western Michigan, Winthrop, Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Youngstown State.

The 6th Annual Boston-Moon Classic at the Edward S. Temple Track at Tennessee State University starts at 10 a.m. with the field events and noon for the running events.

The meet is named after two TSU men's track Olympians, Ralph Boston and John Moon. Boston will serve as the meet's referee and Moon, the track coach at Seton Hall University, has traditionally brought his team to compete in the meet.
