Blue Raiders Lose 7-3 to Lady Mocs

Pull within one run in 4th inning but could get no closer

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee pulled within run of Chattanooga but could not get any closer as the Blue Raiders (15-21, 7-7) lost 7-2 to the Lady Mocs (29-14, 7-0) in the second game of a doubleheader at Jim Frost Stadium on Thursday evening.

In the first game of the doubleheader, the Blue Raiders carried a 3-0 lead in the 3rd inning but could not hold on as they fell 7-3 to the Lady Mocs.

Kellie Head (5-9) got the start and the loss for the Blue Raiders. The freshman gave up four earned runs on seven hits, while striking out one and walking two in the 6.0 inning, complete game effort.

Michelle Fuzzard (4-2) picked up the win for Chattanooga. She gave up two earned runs no runs and no hits, while striking out two and walking two, in 3.1 innings of relief action.

Lady Mocs starter Kandace Irwin also pitched. She gave up three runs on two hits, while striking out three and walking two, in 3.2 innings.

Chattanooga opened the scoring in the 2nd inning when Ashlan Clarkson hit a three-run homerun to left field to put the Lady Mocs out front 3-0.

Middle Tennessee responded with two runs of their own in the top of the 4th inning. Corrie Abel and Whitney Darlington walked to put two runners on before Justine Cerda drove a hard shot up the middle, scoring Abel. Whittney Padgett singled through the hole in the left side to put the Blue Raiders within one run, 3-2.

Cerda and Padgett both went 1-for-3 with a RBI to lead the Blue Raiders

Chattanooga increased their lead to 4-2 off a Katie Blevins homerun to deep centerfield. The home team added three more in the bottom of the 5th inning off a Fuzzard sacrifice fly and Toni Hutchison two-run homerun.

The Blue Raiders were unable to cut into their 7-2 deficit in the remaining innings as they dropped their second straight game against the Lady Mocs.

Middle Tennessee returns to to Sun Belt Conference action against the Florida International Golden Panthers at Blue Raider Field on Saturday at 1 PM.
