Blue Raiders Lose Close Match 4-3

TROY, Ala. - Middle Tennessee women's tennis team lost a close match with conference rival Troy as the Trojans took a 4-3 win on Saturday.

The Blue Raiders took the doubles point to begin play with a 1-0 lead. Junior Marlene Chemin and sophomore Stephanie Parkison fell 8-4 to Annabelle Bares and Rawia El Sisi.

Middle Tennessee then rebounded as seniors Ann-Kristin Siljestrom and Claudia Szabo won their match 9-7 over Mirte De Bakker and Leonie Guijt. Junior Pooja Kommireddi and freshman Shannon Hartmann clinched the point with their 8-3 win over Stephanie Vieria and Carolina Jounia.

In singles play, El Sisi tied the match at 1 with her 6-2, 6-2 win over Siljestrom. Then Bares defeated Parkison 6-2, 6-3 to give the Trojans a 2-1 lead in the match.

Szabo tied the score again with her win over De Bakker 6-2, 6-2. Chemin then fell 6-2, 6-3 to Vieria, as Guijt sealed the win for Troy as she defeated Herrera 6-4, 6-4.

Kommireddi rounded out play for the Blue Raiders as she defeated Marine 6-4, 7-5.

Middle Tennessee will be back in action on Sunday, April 13 when it faces UAB at 11 a.m.
