Middle Tennessee Loses Sunday Game 16-8

McDade leads Blue Raiders at plate as ULM sweeps

MONROE, La. - Middle Tennessee lost the final game of its series with Louisiana-Monroe 16-8 on Sunday.

Junior Jordan Alvis (3-2) took the loss as he allowed eight runs on five hits in one inning of work. The Blue Raiders (20-17-1, 9-11) used four pitchers in relief with senior Langdon Stanley going the longest pitching four innings allowing seven runs on nine hits.

Sophomore Blake McDade led the Blue Raiders at the plate once again Sunday as he went 3 for 5 with two RBI, a double and scored two runs. Junior Rawley Bishop added assistance as he ended the day 2 for 4 with four RBI including a two-run home run.

As a team, Middle Tennessee notched 16 hits, the same as ULM (27-12, 17-4) but left nine on base. Every player in the line-up for the Blue Raiders recorded at least one hit in the game.

ULM's Ben Soignier had a perfect 3 for 3 day at the plate before moving to the mound and notching the win. Soignier allowed two runs on five hits in four and two-thirds innings of work.

Nick Maragas also performed well at the plate going 3 for 4 with four RBI and scoring two runs. Kyle Suire was 2 for 5 one the day but had two home runs, five RBI and scored another two runs.

ULM scored three runs after a bases clearing double by Maragas with no outs in the bottom of the second to take an early 3-0 lead. Maragas scored on the next pitch after a single to left by Laird. Alvis hit two batters to load the bases for Suire who took advantage and hit a grand slam to put the Warhawks up by eight with no outs. ULM ended the inning scoring nine runs on six hits.

Dennis scored on single by McDade and then the Blue Raiders added two more runs on a double by Bishop down the right field line. Brentz cut the lead to five with his single up the middle to bring in Bishop from second. Middle Tennessee would score four runs on four hits making it a 9-4 game.

Maragas hit a sacrifice fly to right field scoring a runner from third in the bottom of the fourth to increase ULM's lead to six.

Bishop stepped to the plate in the top of the fifth and hit a two-run shot to left field cutting the Warhawks lead to four.

ULM increased its lead to six once again as Dexter Fontenot hit a two-run shot to left field.

The Blue Raiders added one more run in the top of the sixth as McDade reached on a fielder's choice as Hines advanced to third. ULM's short stop had a bad throw to first trying to get the double play which allowed Hines to score from third.

Laird had a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth allowing a runner to score from third and pad the lead again 13-7. Ben Soignier then hit a two-run shot over the scoreboard in left field to increase the lead to eight. Two pitches later Suire hit a solo shot to right field making it 16-7 in favor of ULM.

Miller doubled down the left field line which allowed Box to score from first making it an eight run game.

Middle Tennessee will be back in action on Tuesday, April 22 when it plays host to Memphis in a two-game series at Reese Smith Field. The series will begin an eight-game home stand for the Blue Raiders ending with its final home conference series against Troy.
