MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee junior Martha Davis was named the Sun Belt Conference Player the Week on Tuesday after hitting the first grand slam of her career against Jacksonville State last week.
Davis batted .417 with two homeruns and five RBI in two non-conference doubleheaders against the Gamecocks and UT Martin. She led the team on the week in homeruns, RBI, hits (5), runs scored (2), total bases (11), slugging percentage (.917) and on-base percentage (.462).
"Martha is starting to peak at the right time. She is starting to show the bat that we know she has and it is great for the team. We need someone to come in with RBI's and she has hit some very clutch hits in the last week. This award is especially exciting from a coaching perspective," said Head Coach Sue Nevar.
The outfielder's week was highlighted by stellar performance in the second game of the doubleheader against JSU on Tuesday evening. She went 2-for-4 with a grand slam, a solo homerun, five RBI and two runs scored in Middle Tennessee's 7-4 victory.
The Signal Mountain, Tenn. native leads the team on the season in both homeruns (7) and RBI (25).
This is the second conference player of the week award for the Blue Raiders after Corrie Abel received the nomination on April 7.
"This is the second offensive award in the last few weeks and for a team was predicted to finish sixth in the conference at the start of the season it is a quite an accomplishment," said Nevar.
The Blue Raiders travel for a doubleheader at Tennessee Tech on Wednesday before wrapping up conference play with a three-game series at Florida Atlantic beginning on Saturday.
Said Nevar, "This is best thing that could have happened for Martha Davis and the team with two weeks to go until the conference tournament."
