MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Five Middle Tennessee tracksters will head to the 114th Penn Relay Carnival in Philadelphia, Pa., while the remainder of the men's and women's squad will take part in the Coach O Invitational in Troy, Ala. These are the last tuneup meets for the Blue Raiders before the Sun Belt Championships set for May 7-9 in Denton, Texas.

Sophomore Sarah Nambawa will participate in the long jump Thursday at the Penn Relays and the triple jump on Friday and will be the only female for the Blue Raiders.

Junior Samuel Adade, sophomore Phillip Tanner, junior Carl Morgan and senior Carlos Morgan will take part in the 4x200-meter relay on Friday and the 4x100-meter relay on Saturday at Franklin Field on the University of Pennsylvania campus. The Morgan brothers will also participate in the long jump on Friday and the triple jump on Saturday.

"Sarah should be in the championship division of the triple jump because she's an NCAA qualifier and then the relays will take preference on Friday for the guys over the long jump," head coach Dean Hayes said. "When you go to [the Penn Relays], the relays take preference over the individual events. We'll see if we can get our 4x100 relay together for the Sun Belt meet."

Hayes said the Penn Relays is quite a spectacle with so many different people involved.

"It's not a track meet, it's a carnival. It's 13,000 athletes and 125,000 people, a lot of people running in and out of there, really a great show," he said.

The other members of the Middle Tennessee track team will head to the Coach O Invitational at Troy on Saturday. Field events begin at 11 a.m. and running starts at 1 p.m.

"We're going to Troy hoping for good weather since we haven't had any the entire spring, get in some performances and get ready for the Sun Belt meet because we really don't have another meet before the Sun Belt. We really won't do anything else before the Sun Belt," Hayes said.
