MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee head baseball coach Steve Peterson announced the signing of pitcher Brett Wilson to a scholarship agreement on Monday, the first spring signee for the Blue Raiders.
Wilson, a 6'3" left-handed pitcher from Oakland High School in Murfreesboro, Tenn., is a three-year letterwinner under head coach Mack Hawks. The Patriots are 18-8 overall and 10-3 in district play in 2008.
"Brett has had an outstanding high school career at Oakland. He is a guy that I think has a very good future. Brett will get opportunities to pitch, we need more left-handers," head coach Steve Peterson said.
As a junior, Wilson went undefeated posting a 10-0 record with a 1.42 ERA and 82 strikeouts.
This season for Oakland, Wilson is 7-1, losing his first game in two years on the mound earlier last week. In the loss to Siegel, Wilson struck out eight, walked none and allowed just three hits, all of which were in the second inning. In his other six innings of work no one reached base.
Against Riverdale on Friday, Wilson took the win as he retired the first 11 batters and kept the Warriors to just two hits in the shut out.
"He is a just another outstanding prospect coming from Oakland High School and Rutherford County. I am very pleased to have him join our ballclub," Peterson said.
Middle Tennessee will be back in action on Friday, May 2 at 6 p.m. when it faces Troy at Reese Smith Field for its final home conference series.
