ANDY MCCOLLUM ON TODAY'S FIRST OFFICIAL PRACTICE "For a first practice I thought the kids buzzed around pretty well and were focused on what they were doing. The veterans came in and picked up right where they left off in the spring and the newcomers impressed me because you could tell they did a lot of work over the summer. They were ready. Overall, I was very pleased with day one and I see it as a good starting point on which to build."

"As for the newcomers, I thought Keon Raymond and Tavares Jones did some nice things out there today on defense, along with Bradley Robinson. Stephen Chicola (tight end) made some catches and opened some eyes and I thought Linnie Yarbrough and Sean Waller did a good job of catching the ball."

Notes: For the first time in the Andy McCollum era, the Blue Raiders began practice today with five scholarship quarterbacks competing for playing time (Josh Harris, Clint Marks, Sam Hunt, Patrick Jackson and Joe Craddock) ... Defensive back Danny Tolbert made a nice one-handed interception during a passing drill today on a tipped ball from receiver Pedro Holiday ... Safety Jeremiah Weaver from New Mexico Military arrived today in time for practice. The junior drove approximately 33 hours and arrived around 9 AM in time for meetings and drills during the first day of practice ... Former Blue Raider offensive lineman and three-time All-Sun Belt performer Brandon Westbrook, former linebacker Marcus Harvey, and former receiver Ryan Edmiston were all at today's first practice.
