MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Sophomore Brittany Cox set a personal-best in winning the discus, sophomore William Songock was second in the 10000-meters and junior Ashleigh Thaler placed fourth in the 10000, leading Middle Tennessee's track teams Friday at the Sun Belt Track and Field Championships in Denton, Texas.

Competition continues Saturday with field events starting at 12:30 p.m. and running events beginning at 6 p.m. Just five events took place on the first day of action at Fouts Field on the University of North Texas campus in addition to the opening day of competition in the heptathlon and decathlon.

Cox's first-place mark of 153-11 was more than 17 feet than any previous distance this season and more than 10 feet better than her previous personal-best.

"Brittany did a great job and she actually set PR's on each of her final three throws," head coach Dean Hayes said. "It was a great way for her to start and a great way for our team to begin the meet as well."

Songock and freshman Isaac Biwott placed second and fourth, respectively, in the 10000-meters with times of 31:54.10 and 32:38.33. Thaler finished fourth in the final event of the night in a personal-best 39:20.32.

"William ran right with the leader and did very well, and Ashleigh probably ran the race of her life," Hayes said.
