Narramore finishes fourth at The Maxwell
Blue Raiders fifth overallMay 11, 2008 · MT Media Relations
Scoring at the 17th annual Perry Maxwell Intercollegiate, however, is unique and the Blue Raiders' sizzling three-round total under this format was good enough for fifth in their final tune-up before the NCAA East Regional Thursday through Saturday in Chattanooga.
Host Oklahoma State won the event with a 31-under 809 on the par-70 course at Dornick Hills Country Club, followed by Michigan (812), Wichita State (819), and Middle Tennessee (823).
The tournament utilizes a unique format with each team playing together as a fivesome. Scoring for the tournament uses an alternate format as well. Instead of using the low four individual totals after each round, team scores are compiled using the low four scores on each hole.
Players battled gusty winds all weekend but they weren't enough to tame the solid play of junior Chas Narramore, who carded a 1-under 209 to finish tied for fourth. Senior Nick Bailes was strong with a 3-over 213 to finish tied for 12th, followed by Jason Millard in 21st with a 216, Rick Cochran 36th with a 221, and Kent Bulle 41st with a 223.
"More than anything it was good to get back on the course in a tournament and not have the long layoff before the Regional," Middle Tennessee Head Coach Whit Turnbow said. "The scoring was different in that you generally don't have your team playing together other than in the practice rounds. We just have to fine tune a few things and get ready for the Regional Tournament."
