Chuck Taylor Golf Tournament set for Tuesday; Blue Raiders head to summer leagues
May 29, 2008 · MT Media RelationsMiddle Tennessee's annual Chuck Taylor Golf Tournament will be played at Indian Hills Golf Course on Tuesday, June 3, 2008.
This year's event will be a four-person scramble with prizes awarded for first through fifth place. Prizes will also be given for Closest-to-the-Pin and Longest Drive. A hole-in-one on any par 3 on the course will be awarded prizes as well.
Each entry into the tournament will receive a barbecue lunch, a goody bag, free beverages on the course, a red tee and mulligan, and a chance for a big money prize for an ace on hole number seven. The entry fee is $115 per player. The tournament committee is also seeking hole sponsors for $100 each.
Registration for the tournament is slated to begin at 11:30 a.m. with a shotgun start scheduled for 1 p.m.

Collegiate Summer Leagues: There are 15 Blue Raiders playing in collegiate summer leagues around the country. Sophomores Zach Hudson and Tyler Hyde are playing in the New England league for the Manchester Silkworms. Junior Kevin Whittaker and sophomore Kenneth Roberts are playing for the Edenton Steamers in the Coastal Plain League.
Sophomore Blake McDade is the lone Blue Raider in the Valley league as he is on the Staunton Braves and sophomore Chad Edwards is playing for Dubois County in the Central Illinois league.
Freshmen Tyler Acker, Justin Miller and Jud Stolz are playing for the Union City Greyhounds in the KIT league. Junior Stuart Meinhart and freshman Hunter Dawson are also in the KIT league playing for Fulton.
Junior Taylor Dennis travels to Canada to compete for the Okatoks Dogs while freshman Tyler Burnett plays for the Delaware Cows in the Great Lakes league. Rounding out the field for the Blue Raiders are juniors Ben Darlington and Chad Coley who are playing in the Southern league for the Carolina Sox.
Construction Update: On Friday, May 23, construction crews poured concrete for the floor of the press box at Reese Smith Field. Currently, Olympia Construction is working on finishing brick work around the stadium, steel supports for the seats to go into place and the press box.
Big League Update: Former Blue Raider standout Brett Carroll has played in 15 games this season for the Florida Marlins. Carroll has three total bases with one triple and one RBI. Carroll was sent to Triple-A Albuquerque for a couple of weeks but was called back up after batting .418, fourth in the Pacific Coast league and was named Player of the Week on April 27.
