(Practice No. 16)

WEATHER WREAKS HAVOC IN MORNING PRACTICE: The Blue Raiders got to period No. 8 this morning and then the rain came down so hard the team could not even see across the other side of the field. Coach McCollum directed the players to go underneath the stands in Floyd Stadium until the weather broke. After about a 20-minute break, the team returned to practice but this time it was in Floyd Stadium. The team practiced for about 15 minutes and then another storm came, but this time lightning was in the area and they had to retreat to the concourse area underneath the stands for a second time. Finally, after about a 15-minute break the Blue Raiders resumed practice.

MCCOLLUM ON TODAY'S PRACTICE: "Due to the weather this morning the practice was very long and grueling for the players. It was a tough morning. We got knocked off the field two different times and it's tough to stop and start like that. Mentally it was very draining on the guys. Some responded well and others did not. Hopefully, we will come back this afternoon and get better. This is a difficult stretch right now because the long camp is taking its toll physically, but this is when you need to be mentally tough."

TEAM DRILL: The Blue Raiders conducted a 12-play team vs team drill this morning that produced bright spots on both sides of the ball. Defensively, linbacker Dennis Burke recorded an interception while Danny Tolbert had a pass breakup. Offensively, WR Chris Henry collected three receptions for 13 yards and WR Walt Bell had two catches for 16 yards. QB Clint Marks was 3-for-6 in the passing department, while Sam Hunt went 3-for-4. Josh Harris was 1-for-2.

WRIGHT RECOGNIZED: Senior Kerry Wright was recently named CollegeFootballNews.com honorable mention all-American at wide receiver. CFN also tabbed Wright the eighth best receiver in the nation. Here is what CFN had to say about Wright: "Possibly the best player in the Sun Belt along with North Texas RB Patrick Cobbs, Wright had a tremendous year catching 73 passes for 1,280 yards and nine touchdowns as the league's most unstoppable receiving force. He isn't huge, but he has great deep speed and is dangerous with the ball in his hands."

TIDBITS: Marcus Gates moved back to center due to the injury to Kyle Ringley ... WR/RB Lee Baker was back at practice Monday morning ... Sean Waller was moved from wide receiver to defensive back.

FREE YARD SIGNS: The Middle Tennessee athletic department is issuing free yard signs to all Blue Raider football season ticket holders. The sign is two-sided and has the phrase "Blue Raider Neighbor Season Ticket Holder" in bold letters along with the Middle Tennessee logo. "This is a great way for fans to show their support of Blue Raider football and help us with our attendance goals," said Athletic Director Boots Donnelly. The signs can be picked up at the Middle Tennessee Ticket Office or at the BRAA office in the Murphy Center. If a person has a problem picking up the sign, then call the ticket office (898-2103) or the BRAA office (898-2210) and a member of the athletic department will work out a time for delivery.
