DENTON, Tex. - Middle Tennessee jumped out to a hot start to open the 2004 fall season on Monday, then cooled in the second round to stand in sixth place after 36 holes of the Cobb/Ferrell Mean Green Classic. Host North Texas owns the lead with a 574.

"I am happy with the way we started the tournament, but in the second round we really showed our youth," said Head Coach Johnny Moore. "We have some talented players so I expect us to bounce back on Tuesday."

The Blue Raiders carded a 292 in round one behind a 68 from Blake Bivens to tie for second overall, but struggled with a 300 in the second 18 to enter the final day with a 592 cumulative score.

Bivens, who led the tournament after 18 holes, and Josh Nelms paced the Blue Raiders in day one with a pair of 145s to tie for 12th overall. Redshirt freshman Nick Bailes had a 149 to tie for 30th.

True freshman Brandon Burris opened with a 79 then settled down to register a 74 in round two. Burris is tied for 49th. Another newcomer, junior Patrick McLennan, is tied for 67th after registering a 158.
