McDade named Valley League Player of the Week

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Sophomore Blake McDade has been named Player of the Week in the Valley Baseball League.

McDade is one of 13 Middle Tennessee baseball players playing summer baseball.

The Ooltewah, Tenn., native started and played in five games this past week and had 17 at bats. In those 17 at bats, McDade had a .471 batting average with four runs scored, eight hits, three doubles, two home runs, nine RBI and 17 total bases. McDade recorded a slugging percentage of 1.000 and an on-base percentage of .591.

In the league he ranked third in batting average, tied for third in slugging percentage, first in on-base percentage, first in RBI, tied for second in doubles and second in total bases.

This season with 124 at bats, McDade has a batting average of .274, 19 scored runs, 34 hits, eight doubles, two triples, four home runs and is first on his team in RBI with 29. He also has the most total bases on his team with 58, a .468 of slugging percentage and an on-base percentage of .361.

All-Star Honors Freshman Justin Miller has been named to the 2008 KIT All-Star team. Miller is currently batting .298 with 11 doubles, four home runs, 21 RBI and 34 runs scored for the Union City Greyhounds.

Freshman Hunter Dawson was also named to the KIT All-Star team. Dawson is currently batting .281 with 48 hits, 12 doubles, two triples, four home runs, 17 RBI and has scored 45 runs in 42 games for the Fulton Railroaders.

Other Summer League Updates Sophomore Kenneth Roberts is 0-1 with a 3.80 ERA in six appearances for the Edenton Steamers. The Murfreesboro, Tenn., native has struck out 15 batters in 23.2 innings of work as batters are hitting .275 against him.

Freshman Tyler Burnett has played in 23 games starting 21 for the Delaware Cows in the Great Lakes League. Currently, the Murfreesboro, Tenn., native is batting .247 with 18 hits, three doubles, one triple and six RBI.

Sophomore Chad Edwards has posted a 2.94 ERA in six starts with the Dubois County Bombers. Edwards is 2-1 with 21 strikeouts in 33.2 innings of work.

Junior Stuart Meinhart has played in 34 games for the Fulton County Railroaders batting .258 with 10 doubles, five home runs, 30 RBI and has scored 25 runs.

Sophomore Zach Hudson has played in 25 games starting 24 for the Manchester Silkworms. The Nashville, Tenn., native is batting .247 with 22 hits, four doubles, two triples, one home run, 12 RBI and 12 runs scored.

Also playing for the Silkworms is sophomore Tyler Hyde who is 0-1 in 28.2 innings with an ERA of 3.45. Hyde has struck out 20 batters in five appearances as batters are hitting .233 against him.

Freshman Tyler Acker has played in 33 games for the Union City Greyhounds and is batting .213 with three doubles, 20 RBI and 15 runs scored. Freshman Jud Stoltz is 5-3 for the Greyhounds in nine appearances. The Lewisburg, Tenn., native has struck out 51 batters in 60 innings of work.

Construction Update Construction continues at Reese Smith Field as crews finish installing chairback seating, installation and sheet rock in the press box and brick work on the columns. This week crews began forming the sidewalks around the edge of the stadium as well as the concourse area. A camera deck was installed on the first base dug out. In the coming weeks, wiring will be installed in the press box, concrete will be poured for the sidewalks and concourse.
