Blue Raiders let one slip away vs FAUSeptember 18, 2004 · MT Media Relations
MIDDLE TENNESSEE VS FLORIDA ATLANTIC
SEPT. 18, 2004; FLOYD STADIUM
HOME OPENERS: The Blue Raiders fell to 3-3 in home openers in the I-A era, including three consecutive losses. Middle Tennessee's last home-opening victory was 54-17 versus Troy State in 2001.
ANOTHER BLOCK: For the second consecutive week, Middle Tennessee blocked a kick when freshman Sean Mosley rejected an FAU field goal in the second quarter. It marked the 14th blocked kick in the McCollum era and the fourth blocked field goal. The other blocks have been four punts and six extra points. Jerry Vanderpool blocked an Akron field goal attempt last week.
WRIGHT TOPS 100: For the sixth time in his career, receiver Kerry Wright went over the 100-yard receiving mark when he hauled in nine passes for 147 yards. Wright now needs just one more 100-yard game to tie Tyrone Calico and Demetric Mostiller for second place all-time. The 147 yards is the second-highest total of Wright's career behind only the 187 versus New Mexico State in 2003.
BAKER FOR SIX: Junior college transfer Lee Baker, who made the start today at running back, scored his first collegiate touchdown when he ran one in from two yards out in the first quarter. Baker, nicknamed the "touchdown maker", had 11 scores last year for Coffeyville CC.
JACKSON SEES TIME: With the Blue Raiders' top two running backs lost due to injuries early in the game, redshirt freshman Terry Jackson got the bulk of the work. Playing in his first college game, Jackson responded with 49 yards on eight carries. The Memphis, Tenn., native had a long run of 38 yards. Jackson was also a threat in the passing game as he corralled four passes for 47 yards.
MARKS HAS CAREER-HIGH: Sophomore Clint Marks did not enjoy one of his better days against FAU but he did set a career-high in passing yards. The Fort Myers, Fla., native completed 27-of-37 passes (both career-highs) for 359 yards to mark the second straight game he has set a new personal passing high. Marks also had three interceptions.
WRIGHT TIES SIMPSON: Senior Kerry Wright hauled in his 12th career touchdown reception in the second quarter. That total ties him for ninth place all-time with Cory Simpson (1992-94).
TIDBITS: Kerry Wright has now caught at least two passes in 14 straight games ... WR Taron Henry played in his first collegiate game today ... QB Clint Marks made his third career start today in the home opener against FAU ... WR Pierre Ingram played in his first game of the year after missing a bunch of practice and the season opener due to a hamstring injury ...
