HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Middle Tennessee shot a disappointing 302 in the final round of the Raising Cane Classic to finish 13th in the men's golf event at the Canebrake Golf Club. The Blue Raiders had a 54-hole total of 890.
Mississippi won the event with an 841 followed by Sam Houston State and Tulane in second with an 857, while South Florida was fourth with an 859 and Louisiana-Lafayette rounded out the top five with an 865.
"This was a very disappointing tournament," Head Coach Johnny Moore said. "Mentally we were not tough enough."
Blake Bivens (Etowah, Tenn.) led the way for the Blue Raiders with a 216 to finish in a tie for 17th. Bivens, the only Blue Raider in the top 20, fired a 69 on Tuesday to tie for the third best round of the day.
Nick Bailes (Cleveland, Tenn.) had a 221 to tie for 41st, while Josh Nelms (Chattanooga, Tenn.) came home in a tie for 62nd after posting a 225.
Chris Webb (Jackson, Tenn.) tied for 74th with a 228, while Brandon Burris (White House, Tenn.) tied for 84th. Burris had a 242, including a 79 in the final round.
The Blue Raiders will compete in the Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate on Sept. 27-28 in Nashville. The tournament, hosted by Vanderbilt, will be played at the Legends Club of Tennessee.
