MURFREESBORO, Tenn.- Middle Tennessee is set to broadcast all home and select road soccer and volleyball matches for the 2008 season exclusively on GoBlueRaiders.com. In addition, 21 matches have been selected for live video coverage between the sports, representing the highest number of matches streamed on the website ever. David Powell will call soccer matches and Russell Luna will handle volleyball.
Powell will broadcast 12 matches this season, including three road matches, starting with the Blue Raiders' season opener at Jacksonville State on August 23. Seven games will be available for duel-streaming audio and video, beginning with the home-opening match against rival Vanderbilt on August 29. Powell enters his third season as the voice of Blue Raider Soccer.
"I am very excited about the broadcast schedule and we are very fortunate to have an athletic department that can provide us with this opportunity," head coach Aston Rhoden said. "It will be a great recruiting tool for us and will give our parents from overseas and around the country a chance to follow our matches. I think it is definitely something that will add a lot of quality to our program and our university as we continue to broaden our fan base both nationally and internationally."
Luna will call 18 matches this year, including one road match, beginning with Middle Tennessee's opening match of the Blue Raider Bash against Idaho. Dual streaming will begin the following day when the Blue Raiders take on Southeast Missouri State, one of 15 matches being broadcasted in that format during the season. He will also call two matches that the Blue Raiders do not participate in during the tournament as well as one match during the following week's Middle Tennessee Invitational. Luna enters his third season of broadcasting volleyball for Middle Tennessee.
"As our program has improved and our fan base has grown people have been asking me about web streaming the matches and listening to the radio. It is just amazing we are doing it this year to help people keep up with the Blue Raiders when they can not attend our matches," head coach Matt Peck said. "I think it is another sign of the incredible support we get from the university and the MTSU community."
