Cibils, Vest, Williams All Advance at Fall Invitational

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee's Ana Maria Cibils, Emily Vest and Jacqui Williams all won a pair of singles matches and Williams won her doubles match for the Lady Raiders during the first day of play at the Middle Tennessee Fall Invitational.

Cibils defeated Lipscomb's Erin Moakler, 6-4, 6-2 in Flight A, then won 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 over Ball State's Jessica Thompson in the quarterfinals. The senior will take on UAB's Julia von Samson at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the semifinals.

In Flight C, Vest won 6-2, 6-1 over Lipscomb's Samantha Duggan and 6-1, 6-2 against Ball State's Allison Thompson. Vest, also a senior, will play Claire Conerly of Ole Miss at 10:30 a.m. in the semifinals.

In Flight D, Williams defeated Ball State's Beth Campus before taking care of UT Martin's Mary Beth Gunn, 6-1, 6-2. The sophomore will take on Western Kentucky's Laura Caffey at 10:30 a.m. in the semifinals on Saturday.

In other singles action, Claudia Szabo won her first match, 6-0, 6-1, over Lipscomb's Mary Beth Muncher, but lost in the quarterfinals to UAB's Samrin Tanzeen, 2-6, 2-6.

Szabo redeemed herself shortly after, teaming with Williams to win 8-0 over Belmont's Christina Griffith and Burgundy Moss in the first round of Flight B. Szabo and Williams play Saturday against UAB's Jana Wild and Ornischa Maier-Knapp.

Also in doubles, Vest and Cibils drew a first-round bye and will play Saturday versus UT Martin's Gunn and Jeanne de Wet in the quarterfinals, also in Flight B.
