Cibils, Williams, Two Doubles Make Finals

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee's Ana Maria Cibils and Jacqui Williams each won in straight sets and a pair of doubles teams each won twice Saturday to reach the finals of their respective brackets during the second day of play in the Middle Tennessee Fall Invitational.

Cibils and Williams both won convincingly, with Cibils defeating UAB's Julia von Samson in Flight A, 6-1, 6-1, and Williams taking a 6-1, 6-0, victory over Western Kentucky's Laura Caffey in Flight D. Cibils takes on UT Martin's Sari Nortje in the finals, while Williams will battle UAB's Antonia Nugent.

In Flight C, senior Emily Vest got out to a quick start, breaking Claire Conerly of Ole Miss at 4-all in the first set en route to a 6-4 win. But Conerly battled back to win the match, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.

In doubles action, Vest and Cibils won twice to reach the finals of Flight B, defeating UT Martin's Mary Beth Gunn and Jeanne de Wet, 8-1, in the quarterfinals and Cumberland's Kristina Popovic and Alicja Kutyla, 8-5, in the semifinals. The duo will play teammates Williams and Claudia Szabo Sunday in the finals.

Williams and Szabo won 8-6 over UAB's Ornischa Maier-Knapp and Jana Wild in the quarterfinals and 8-1 Alex Tjioe and Christina Wieser of Memphis in the semifinals.

Finals match in all singles divisions will take place at 9 a.m. Sunday at the Buck Bouldin Tennis Center, with doubles finals to follow at approximately 10:30 a.m. Full results may be accessed at GoBlueRaiders.com.
