Sangau, Songock Pace Harriers

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Sophomore Zamzam Sangau finished fifth and junior William Songock placed 10th among more than 200 competitors in each race, leading Middle Tennessee's cross country teams late Saturday at the Memphis Twilight Classic in Memphis, Tenn.

Sangau posted her third straight Top 10 finish, placing fifth among 275 competitors. She finished the 5K course in 18:09.78.

Senior Ashley Comstock, sophomore Marla Bailey and freshman Kristen Tithof also had strong showings for the women, placing 36th (19:47.12), 42nd (19:57.18) and 47th (20:04.73), respectively.

Senior Ashleigh Thaler was the fifth finisher for the women, coming in 91st in 21:16.61. The women's team placed seventh among 39 teams in the race.

Songock also registered his third straight Top 10 showing, placing 10th on the 8K course in 25:28.74 among 238 competitors.

The remaining four Blue Raider men finished between 25th and 37th, a very good team performance that left the men fourth among 29 teams.

Sophomore Festus Chemaoi placed 25th in 26:31.55, sophomore Julius Kirui was 27th in 26:38.37, sophomore Isaac Biwott finished 28th in 26:44.91 and sophomore David Emery came in 37th in 26:59.67.

"Zamzam ran really, really well and Ashley, Marla and Kristen also did well, especially the freshman," head coach Dean Hayes said. "William and Festus both ran well and all of the men ran very solid races. It was a good showing and they're coming along very nicely, doing a good job."

The men's and women's cross country teams both race next week at the WKU Old Timers Classic in Bowling Green, Ky.
