Raiders Fall at Region III Championships

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee's men's tennis team suffered through a tough outing Saturday at the ITA Region III Championships in Memphis, Tenn., winning early matches in singles and doubles before falling later in the day.

Andreas Siljestrom defeated Tulane's 32nd-ranked Jacobo Hernandez, 7-5, 6-3, in the morning in singles, but dropped a 1-6, 6-7, decision to Vanderbilt's 35th-ranked Scott Brown in the afternoon in the Round of 16. Marco Born lost to Vandy's Jason Pinsky, 5-7, 2-6, in the Round of 32 Saturday. Brandon Allan and Kai Schledorn, ranked 19th nationally and seeded third in the draw, defeated Tulane's Jonah Kane-West and David Goulet, 8-5, before falling to Georgia's Strahinja Bobusic and Colin Puircell, 8-5.

Born and Siljestrom, seeded ninth in the field, won, 8-4, over UAB's Andre Maier and Sebastian Falk. The duo dropped a 9-8 decision to Florida's 49th-ranked Janne Holmia and Greg Oullette in the Round of 16 late Saturday.

Late Friday, Born defeated Troy's 91st-ranked Ivan Morales, 6-4, 6-0, while Schledorn lost 7-6, 1-6, 1-6, to Mississippi State's 110th-ranked Jose Carlos Pinto.
