ATHENS, Ga. - Sophomore John Peers continued to perform well at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships, hosted by the University of Georgia, as he advanced to the round of 16 in his bracket.

Peers began the day by defeating Georgia Tech's Kevin King 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 in the Division I round of 32.

The Melbourne, Australia, native then fell to Nate Schnugg, seeded first in the bracket and 12th in the country, 6-4, 6-2 in the round of 16.

Senior Morgan Richard fell to Bruno Agostinelli of Kentucky 6-0, 6-0 in the round of 32.

In the Division II round of 32, sophomore Richard Cowden won his match 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (5) over Freddy Prandecki of N.C. State.

Junior Alex McCann fell to Vanderbilt's Charlie Jones 6-4, 6-0 in the Division II consolation bracket.

In the Division III consolation bracket, sophomore Kyle Wishing fell, 6-0, 6-1, to Eugene Dolgovykh of Central Florida.

In doubles action, McCann and Wishing lost their match 8-1 to Central Florida's Brock Sakey and Jo Delinks in the round of 32.

Peers and Cowden teamed up to defeat fourth-seeded Schnugg and Christian Vitulli of Georgia 8-6.

Middle Tennessee will round out play at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships on Sunday, Sept. 21. Results from the day will be posted on www.goblueraiders.com as soon as they become available.
