MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Sophomore Izabela Kozon has been named Sun Belt Player of the Week after leading the Blue Raiders to wins over Florida International and Florida Atlantic as announced by the league office on Monday.
Against the Golden Panthers, Kozon knocked down 17 kills averaging 4.25 kills per set. The Warsaw, Poland native scored 18.5 points for the Blue Raiders against FIU and 32.5 points for the weekend.
In two matches, Kozon knocked down 30 kills for a hitting percentage of .353. Kozon averaged 4.29 kills per set in the two matches.
On Saturday, against the Owls Kozon notch 13 kills for a .632 hitting percentage in a match where no player hit below .300. She averaged 4.33 kills per set and had five digs on the defensive side of the ball.
This is the second SBC Player of the Week honor for Kozon who earned the honor as a freshman. Kozon received the honor after a strong performance against FIU and FAU on the road in 2007.
The Blue Raiders are not back in the CSTV/AVCA Top-25 poll but are receiving votes and this week had 31 total votes in the poll. Middle Tennessee remains the only Sun Belt team receiving votes in the Top-25 poll.
The Blue Raiders will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. when it faces Arkansas State in Jonesboro, Ark. Middle Tennessee will then travel to Little Rock, Ark., to play UALR on Sunday, Oct. 12 at 1 p.m.
