Murfreesboro, Tenn. - After posting a career-best finish in the 5K at the Greater Louisville Classic, Zamzam Sangau earned Sun Belt Runner of the Week honors Tuesday as announced by the league office.
The junior recorded a time of 17:44.07 finishing 13th overall at Saturday's event in Louisville, Ky.
Sangau's performance on Saturday beat her previous career-best of 17:50.13 at the Greater Louisville Classic in 2007.
"She has worked very hard ever since she has been here," Head Coach Dean Hayes said. "You can ask her to do anything and she always tries to do her best. She is really deserving of this kind of honor."
The Kampla, Uganda native led the Blue Raiders with her fifth Top-15 finish of the year. Two weeks earlier, she placed in the top-three for the second time this year with a second place finish at the WKU Old Timer's Classic in Bowling Green, Ky. Sangau won her first race at the Agnes Invitational in Atlanta.
Sangau also placed seventh at the Belmont Opener in Nashville, Tenn., and finished fifth at the Memphis Twilight Classic in Memphis, Tenn.
The men and women's cross country teams will resume action at the UTC Invitational on Saturday Oct. 18 in Chattanooga, Tenn.
