Blue Raiders handle North Texas 3-0

Kozon and Mead notch double-digit kills

DENTON, Texas - Middle Tennessee extended its win streak to five on Thursday night as it defeated North Texas 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-18).

Sophomore Izabela Kozon led the team with 13 kills for a .550 hitting percentage. Junior Ashley Mead added assistance to the offense with 11 kills of her own posting a .375 attack percentage.

As a team, the Blue Raiders (15-3, 5-1 SBC) had 40 kills for a .321 hitting percentage while holding North Texas (3-17, 1-6 SBC)to 27 kills and a .046 attack percentage.

Middle Tennessee also had eight team blocks led by senior Ashley Asberry who had five block assists on the night. Also on defense, the Blue Raiders had 32 digs led by junior Ashley Waugh with nine.

The Blue Raiders started the match sluggish losing the first two points but then got it together jumping out 8-3 and forcing North Texas to call a timeout.

North Texas continued to battle and after trailing by as many as seven closed the gap to two-points, 17-15. Middle Tennessee kept the lead and took the first set 25-22.

The Blue Raiders continued to control the match in the second set taking a 15-6 lead into the halfway point. Middle Tennessee extended its lead to 11 and never looked back taking a 2-0 lead in the match with a 25-14 win.

After two sets, Kozon led the Blue Raiders with 10 kills as she had posted a hitting percentage of .769 after no errors in 13 attempts.

Middle Tennessee had 25 kills with a .314 hitting percentage while holding the Mean Green to a .017 hitting percentage with 18 kills.

North Texas started the third set strong but the Blue Raiders quickly regained their composure taking a four-point lead, 15-11. Middle Tennessee never looked back cruising to a 25-18 win with Asberry notching the final kill.

Middle Tennessee will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 18 when faces Denver at 7 p.m. in Denver.
