MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee men's tennis coach Dale Short announced the signing of Brazilian Lucas de Brito to a scholarship this week during the NCAA's early signing period.

The Curitiba, Brazil, native is ranked seventh in juniors in Brazil and has extensive international experience in junior competition. He has honed his skills at a tennis academy outside of New Orleans, La., and will enroll at Middle Tennessee in January.

"I think Lucas will be a contender for the bottom half of the lineup and add some much-needed depth," Short said. "He is a very good doubles player and has loads of tournament experience throughout the world."

The Blue Raiders ended the fall season with an impressive showing at the UT Fall Classic two weeks ago, sweeping nine doubles matches and winning 16-of-21 singles outings against Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Kentucky. Middle Tennessee begins its dual match schedule January 29 at the Racquet Club of Murfreesboro, facing Chattanooga (11 a.m.) and Belmont (6 p.m.).
