DENTON, Texas - Middle Tennessee added to the individual athletic awards they received earlier on Tuesday with the Sun Belt Conference's team academic award. The Blue Raiders won the conference's highest team academic honor for their off-the-field performance during the 2007-08 season.
The Blue Raiders achieved the honor by compiling a 3.47 cumulative grade-point average. It was the first time the Middle Tennessee soccer program has been honored with the award.
"One of our goals this season was to finish in the top two in the league academically," Head Coach Aston Rhoden said. "This honor certainly exemplifies the emphasis that not just our program but our university places on academic excellence. The credit goes to our student-athletes, academic enhancement center and everyone that has had a part of their success in the classroom."
Middle Tennessee faces off against Florida Atlantic in the first round of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament on Wednesday with kickoff set for 1 p.m. Live audio is available free of charge on GoBlueRaiders.com and video available for $9.95 on SunBeltSports.org.
