Blue Raiders Defeat ULL 3-2

LAFAYETTE, La. - Middle Tennessee volleyball (17-13, 9-5 SBC) won its last regular season match with a 3-2 (32-30, 28-30, 22-30, 30-28, 15-6) Sun Belt victory over Louisiana-Lafayette (7-23, 3-12 SBC) Sunday in Earl K. Long Gym.

The Blue Raiders had two players with double-doubles in KeKe Deckard and Andressa Lyra. Deckard recorded 26 kills and 19 digs and Lyra notched 17 kills and 16 digs. The third prong of the Middle Tennessee attack, Dara McLean, added 15 kills.

Deckard assured Middle Tennessee the win in the first game, with a kill and a service ace to close out the game. ULL took games two and three thanks to costly errors by the Blue Raiders.

Down 2-1, Middle Tennessee roared back in the fourth game and assured a game five after a kill by McLean gave the Blue Raiders the win. Middle Tennessee closed out the match by outscoring ULL 9-3 in the final points of game five.

Middle Tennessee's 17 wins are the most in the program since 2002, when the Blue Raiders also amassed 17 wins. If the Blue Raiders can register a win in the Sun Belt Tournament, it will be the most wins for the squad since 1995.

With the win over Louisiana-Lafayette, Middle Tennessee enters the Sun Belt Tournament as the No. 4 seed. The Blue Raiders will face No. 5 seed, and tournament host, New Orleans at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. The No. 4 seed for Middle Tennessee is the highest placement in the tournament since joining the Sun Belt in 2000.
