Blue Raiders take 3-1 win over FAU

Kozon notches 20 kills in second straight match

BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Blue Raiders rebounded from a tough loss on Friday night to defeat Florida Atlantic 3-1 (25-14, 23-25, 25-16, 25-13) on Saturday night.

Sophomore Izabela Kozon led Middle Tennessee (22-5, 12-3 SBC) with her second straight 20-kill match while junior Ashley Mead and senior Ashley Asberry added 16 and 15 kills respectively. Asberry posted a .650 attack percentage as she had two errors in 20 attempts.

Morgan Johns led the Owls (12-16, 5-11 SBC) with 19 kills for a .333 attack percentage as FAU had just 39 kills in the match for a .182 attack percentage.

The Blue Raiders had 66 kills on the night posting a .352 attack percentage with 43 digs and eight blocks. Junior Ashley Waugh led the defense with her 13 digs while Kozon added 10.

Also assisting the defense was freshman Stacy Oladinni who had a team high six block assists followed by Asberry who had five.

Middle Tennessee regained its composure from its heartbreaking loss to Florida International as it cruised to a 25-14 win in the first set with the Owls.

In the second set, the two teams traded points to begin before the Blue Raiders pulled ahead by three-points, 10-7. The Owls continued to fight and took a two-point lead, 19-17 before holding on to take the win and tie the match at 1-1.

After two sets, Asberry led the offense with 11 kills and no errors in 12 attempts for a .917 attack percentage. Mead and Kozon added eight kills each while Kozon added eight digs to add to the defense.

As a team, Middle Tennessee recorded 34 kills for a .364 attack percentage with 26 digs and three blocks while holding FAU to 22 kills with 18 digs and three blocks.

The Blue Raiders will return home next weekend playing host to Troy and South Alabama on Friday, Nov. 14 and Saturday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. Live stats will be available for both matches as linked on www.goblueraiders.com.
