MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee softball will host winter softball pitching and hitting clinics for ages 8-18 as announced by Head Coach Sue Nevar on Friday.

"We are excited about having a minimum number of people for a maximum amount of instructing," Nevar said. "What we want to do is really focus on the small number of participants and teach them everything we can about hitting and pitching in those specific clinics."

The pitching clinic will be held on January 3/4 in Murfreesboro. One-hour time slots with a maximum of four players per slot will be held from 1-5 p.m. Cost is $20 per player.

The hitting clinic will be held from January 5/6. Two-hour time slots with a maximum of 12 players per slot will be held from 4-8 p.m. Cost is $30 per player.

"I feel this is the most beneficial way to instruct players at this level," Nevar said. "When you have a massive camp with hundreds of kids there is not a whole lot of teaching that is being conducted."

Both clinics will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please include both first-option and second-option times/dates when you request a spot in either clinic.

"If these young athletes have aspirations of playing NCAA college softball then it is important that they learn the proper mechanics and techniques at a young age," Nevar said. "We offer more hands-on instruction here at Middle Tennessee than the vast majority of clinics out there and our instructors have experience both playing and coaching at a high level."

In addition to Nevar, instructors include assistant coach Krista Barts of Auburn University (Southeastern Conference) and pitching coach Margo Pruis, a pitcher for the past two seasons with the Philadelphia Force of the Women's Professional Fastpitch League.
