MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Junior libero Ashley Waugh has been named Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season as announced by the Sun Belt Conference on Monday.

This is the first time since joining the Sun Belt in 2000 that a Middle Tennessee player has received a weekly honor three times in one season.

Waugh ended conference action on a high note with 28 digs in two matches. Waugh averaged 4.67 digs per set as the Blue Raiders defeated Troy and USA 3-0. Against the Trojans, she had 15 digs averaging five per set and followed up the next night with 13 in the win over the Jags.

This is the second consecutive week a Middle Tennessee player has been awarded the defensive weekly honor as senior Ashley Asberry received the same award a week ago.

Waugh first received the honor after guiding the Blue Raider defense in 3-0 wins over Lipscomb, Iowa State and Loyola-Marymount to begin the season. Waugh notched 49 digs in the three matches and averaged 5.44 digs per set. Waugh registered 20 digs, averaging 6.67 per set against Iowa State.

The second award came after wins over Arkansas State and Arkansas-Little Rock. Waugh notched 40 digs in the two matches as she averaged 5.00 per set. Against Arkansas State, Waugh had 23 digs, just two shy of her career high, as she averaged 5.75 digs per set.

The Blue Raiders will begin play at the Sun Belt Championships on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 4 p.m. against Arkansas State. For more information on the Sun Belt tournament visit goblueraiders.com or sunbeltsports.org.
