Blue Raiders defeat Skyhawks 5-2

Win third straight match

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee extended its win streak to three on Sunday with a 5-2 win over UT-Martin.

For the second time this season the Blue Raiders won the doubles point to begin a match. Junior Anna Djananova and freshman Alex Dachos defeated Ernestine Koornhof and Alycia LeMerle 8-4 to begin the match. Senior Marlene Chemin and freshman Taylor Coffey teamed up to defeat Sara Leavy and Jodie Tiley 8-6 to clinch the point for the team.

In singles action, Coffey got Middle Tennessee started as she took a 6-1, 6-2 win over Tiley. Then junior Natalie Araya defeated Belisa DeBrito 6-2, 6-4 to put the Blue Raiders up 3-0 in the match.

The Skyhawks tried to take control of the match winning the next two points making it 3-2 but the Blue Raiders continued to fight.

Dachos won her match 6-0, 6-1 over LeMerle to seal the deal for the Blue Raiders while Chemin defeated Koornhof in the first set 6-1 and led in the second set 4-0 before UTM defaulted to round out play.

The Blue Raiders will have the week off to prepare for Belmont. Middle Tennessee will play Belmont in Nashville, Tenn., on Friday, Feb. 20 at 4 p.m. Results will be posted on goblueraiders.com.
