MT defeats Belmont 5-2

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The women's tennis team defeated Belmont 5-2 on Friday night extending its win streak to four.

The Blue Raiders began the match by winning the doubles point. Junior Natalie Araya and freshman Taylor Coffey teamed up to defeat Laura Stack and Lindsey Bennett 8-4. Then junior Anna Djanaova and freshman Alex Dachos won the point for the team as they defeated Abigail Hogan and Abby Leatherwood 8-3.

Middle Tennessee won four of the six singles matches to seal the win. Araya started things off with her 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 win over Leather wood in No. 2 singles. Then Coffey defeated Bennett 6-1, 3-6, 7-5 to give the Blue Raiders a 3-1 lead.

Dachos and senior Marlene Chemin rounded out play for the Blue Raiders with their two wins. Dachos won her match 6-1, 6-2 over Lauren Irick while Chemin defeated Laura Stack 6-4, 6-4.

The Blue Raiders will be back in action on Sunday, Feb. 22 at 11 a.m. when they face North Texas in Louisville, Ky. Results will be on goblueraiders.com when they become available.
