Lady Raider Netters Defeat Penn State 4-3
February 26, 2005 · MT Media RelationsMiddle Tennessee took the doubles point as they won all three matches. In the No. 3 doubles Claudia Szabo and Jacqui Williams but fought through the match with Jenny Schular and Jess McKeown to win the tiebreaker, 9-8 (2).
In the singles competition, Middle Tennessee won matches at No. 2 and No. 4 singles to take a 3-2 advantage. Senior Ana Maria Cibils picked up the deciding match as she defeated Sasha Abraham 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 to give the Lady Raiders the win.
"I was really proud of the effort from Ana," said Head Coach Neil Stapp. "She had to fight hard against a style of player she wasn't used to but she found a way to win."
Middle Tennessee returns to action on Thursday as the Lady Raiders host Sun Belt foe South Alabama. Match time is set for 1 p.m. at the Murfreesboro Racquet Club.
