NEW ORLEANS - Middle Tennessee's Alysha Clark was named as the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week for a league-record sixth time Monday March 2, it was announced by the conference office. Clark's honor is the last presented by the Sun Belt this season.
Clark, a Mt. Juliet, Tenn., native, leads the nation in scoring with 27.0 points per game following her Murphy Center record 45 points in the regular-season finale Sunday against rival Western Kentucky. She owns two of the top three national single-game scoring highs during the campaign and is more than three points per game above second-place Andrea Riley of Oklahoma State on the national points per game chart.
She added 12 rebounds Sunday for her 14th double-double of the season, which is her 11th against Sun Belt competition and 52nd overall of her career.
Clark began the week with a 32-point outing at Florida International Wednesday in a victory which assured the Blue Raiders of the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Sun Belt Tournament in Hot Springs, Ark.
She broke former Lady Raider Amber Holt's league record for most player of the week honors in a single season. Holt had set the standard with five last year.
The six selections ties Clark with Chrissy Givens for the second most in program history since MT joined the Sun Belt in 2000-01. Holt holds the all-time school record with seven honors in her two seasons as a Blue Raider.
Clark and the rest of her Middle Tennessee teammates will next face the winner of the No. 8 Florida Atlantic/No. 9 New Orleans contest at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in the quarterfinal round of the Sun Belt Tournament.
