AMES, Iowa - Festus Chemaoi earned an NCAA provisional mark, setting a school record in the 800 meters on Saturday at the Last Chance Meet hosted by Iowa State.
Chemaoi's time of 1:50.27 broke his own Middle Tennessee standard set two weeks ago at the MT Valentine Invitational.
Unfortunately, due to an unprecedented 15 teams which qualified at the Notre Dame Meet this weekend, Chemaoi will probably not make the final list to compete in the NCAA Indoor Championships in College Station, Texas.
Head Coach Dean Hayes said, "Festus ran a great 800 setting a new school record, but I've never seen anything like it for that many teams to qualify."
Fellow distance runner William Songock won the 3000 meters in 8:28.30, but wasn't able to qualify for College Station.
Senior Carl Morgan competed in the triple jump. His marks of 49-07.00 placed him third overall. Morgan has an NCAA provisional mark this season and is still eligible, but also is not likely to qualify.
In the sprints, Greg Franklin placed seventh in the 60 meter dash with a time of 6.88. Teammate Curtis King finished ninth in the 60 meter hurdles in 6.95. Franklin and King did not qualify for the national championships.
