TAMPA, Fla. - The Middle Tennessee men's golf team put itself in position to capture the Ron Smith/USF Invitational by taking a two-stroke lead with six holes remaining; however, the Blue Raiders couldn't close the deal and eventually finished third, three shots behind Texas Tech and Florida Southern.
Middle Tennessee players combined to play the final six holes at two-over, enabling Texas Tech and Florida Southern to overtake them down the stretch. It still was another strong showing and back-to-back Top 3 finishes for the Blue Raiders.
Senior Rick Cochran led Middle Tennessee and finished tied for fourth overall with a 4-under 212. He was under par all three rounds of the tournament. Chas Narramore also put together a strong run and finished tied for 18th with an even round at 216.
Jason Millard tied for 22nd with a 1-over 217 and Craig Smith tied for 39th with a 3-over 219. Kent Bulle finished tied for 47th with a 4-over 220.
