Blue Raiders Drop Heartbreaker to Saint Louis 1-0
March 6, 2005 · MT Media RelationsSaint Louis' only run came in the top of the first inning. Centerfielder Adrienne May hit a one out double and advanced to third on a wild pitch by freshman hurler Ashley Katinas. May scored on a sacrifice fly by Sara Sell.
Katinas only lasted two thirds of an inning before she was pulled and replaced by senior Crystal Bobo. After giving up a walk, Bobo got the final out of the inning when she forced Ashley Heady to fly out to right field.
Middle Tennessee had runners in scoring position five times in the game and twice had a runner on third base leaving eight base runners stranded. The Blue Raiders had seven hits in the game but couldn't seem to push a run around.
The Blue Raiders best scoring opportunity came in the bottom of the seventh inning with two outs and the bases loaded. Junior Jennifer Dorais had a solid at bat, fouling off five pitches and forcing the count to three and two before flying out to the centerfielder.
Senior Jennifer Grybash led the Blue Raiders at the plate going 2-for-3. Katinas took the loss and falls to 0-6 on the season. Bobo tossed 6.1 innings in relief allowing four hits, three walks and striking out three.
Middle Tennessee returns to action on Wednesday when the Blue Raiders travel to Birmingham, Alabama to take on Birmingham Southern. The first pitch is set for 5 p.m.
