Blue Raiders lose 10-5 to UL-Lafayette

LAFAYETTE, La. - The Blue Raiders fell to UL-Lafayette 10-5 on Saturday afternoon.

The Ragin' Cajuns (14-12-1, 7-6) had 16 hits on the day with five for extra bases while Middle Tennessee (21-6, 11-3) had eight hits with just one for extra bases as each team left nine runners on base.

Sophomore Bryce Brentz (Knoxville, Tenn.) guided Middle Tennessee at the plate as he ended the day 3 for 5 with a double and scored one run.

Senior Rawley Bishop (Germantown, Tenn.) added assistance to the offense as he went 2 for 4 with one RBI and scored a run.

Junior Kenneth Roberts (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) took the loss on the mound as he allowed six runs on seven hits in 4.1 innings of work.

Junior Coty Woods (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) entered the game in relief and allowed one run on four hits in two innings of work. Sophomore Marshall Mears (Spanish Fort, Ala.) also worked in relief as he allowed three runs on five hits in 1.2 innings.

Blake Haagen took the win for the Ragin' Cajuns as he allowed just one hit in 4.1 innings of work. Justin Robichaux picked up his first save of the year as he allowed no hits or runs in two innings of work.

The Ragin' Cajuns used back-to-back doubles with two outs to take a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning.

Middle Tennessee was quick to respond as it took a 5-3 lead in the top of the third after loading the bases twice with four hits, a walk and a hit batter.

Whipple led off the bottom of third with a solo home run to right field cutting the Blue Raider lead to one.

The Ragin' Cajuns regained the lead in the fifth scoring two runs on two hits and then extended that lead on a solo home run to right field in the seventh by Les Smith, 7-5.

ULL extended its lead to five, 10-5, after scoring three runs on four hits in the eighth.

Middle Tennessee will play the Ragin' Cajuns in the final game of the series on Sunday, April 5 at 1 p.m.
