NEW ORLEANS - Senior Robert McKenzie has been named Sun Belt Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon.
The Melbourne, Australia native posted three singles and doubles wins during the week to lead Middle Tennessee to the Sun Belt Shootout title.
McKenzie defeated Western Kentucky's Andy True and South Alabama's Romain Bocaert in straight sets. Against Piotre Banas of UL-Lafayette, McKenzie lost the first set 3-6 but rebounded to win the match by scores of 6-3, 6-0.
In doubles action, McKenzie with John Peers, who are ranked 29th in the ITA poll, paired up to defeat WKU's True and Thomas Krugg.
Against ULL and South Alabama he paired with senior Morgan Richard to take two wins. McKenzie has now won six straight singles matches and seven doubles matches.
The Blue Raiders are ranked 62nd in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis poll with McKenzie being ranked 94th in singles.
Middle Tennessee will play host to Belmont in its last regular season match on Saturday, April 11 at 9 a.m. The match will be broadcast on MTTV Ch. 10 in Murfreesboro, Tenn. from the Buck Bouldin Tennis Center.
