Team will honor seniors before 1 p.m. match Saturday
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee women's tennis team fell 4-1 to UAB on Friday afternoon after an extended delay due to inclement weather in the Murfreesboro area.
The Blue Raiders and Blazers began the match with singles play. Junior Anna Djananova put Middle Tennessee on the board first as she defeated Ceylan Engin 6-1, 6-1.
UAB picked it up from there keeping the Blue Raiders at just one point. Junior Natalie Araya lost her match 6-3, 6-3 to Giorgia Romeo as UAB tied the match at one.
Then senior Andrea Herrera fell to Paula Alvarez 6-3, 6-3 as the Blazers took a 2-1 lead.
Rounding out play for the Blue Raiders were freshmen Taylor Coffey and Marietta Bigus. Coffey won her first set 6-1 but lost the next two 6-1, 7-5 to Jenny Cape. Bigus fell 7-6 (5), 6-3 to Brittany DeFelice.
Middle Tennessee will round out the regular season on Saturday, April 11 at 1 p.m. when it faces Memphis at the Buck Bouldin Tennis Center.
