COLUMBUS, Ohio - Sophomore Jason Millard produced one of the best final-round performances to finish fifth at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate and help Middle Tennessee make a move on the leader board.

Millard's even par 71 was the second-lowest score of the final round and vaulted him 16 spots in the standings. His 9-over 222 was four shots behind Ohio State's Brad Wright for medalist honors. It was, nonetheless, a remarkable finish on a tough trek for the Murfreesboro native.

The Blue Raiders started the day in a logjam at eighth but moved up two spots in the standings and finished sixth with a three-round 914. Northwestern won the event with an 892, followed by East Tennessee (894) and Minnesota (900).

Chas Narramore (231) finished tied for 29th, followed by Rick Cochran (T43, 235), Craig Smith (T48, 236) and Kent Bulle (T48, 236). Cochran bounced back from battling the tough conditions Saturday with his best effort of the weekend with a 76 in the final round.

"I'm proud of the guys," Middle Tennessee Head Coach Whit Turnbow said. "We would have liked a higher finish but the conditions were tough and they just kept battling and, as a result, we were able to do what we wanted to do today, which was to try and move up a couple spots on the leader board. It was a tough weekend for reasons other than golf with all that has been doing on back at home (with the recent destructive storms) so I'm very proud of these guys and how they got through it."

Millard got through it fine. His final round featured three birdies on the unyielding Scarlet Course. In fact, he played the final 10 holes at 2-under to make a run at the title.
