HOUSTON - Middle Tennessee remained in the top half of the field at the SBC Women's Golf Championship with a 309 during second-round action at the Cypresswood Golf Club Tuesday.

  • The Blue Raiders are in fourth with a 37-over 611 though two rounds, which puts them two shots behind third-place FAU. Denver leads the tournament with a 1-over 577, followed by UALR at 593. The women are playing the par-72 Cypress Course.

Middle Tennessee started the day in second but slipped two spots on the leaderboard after dropping five shots from the opening round.

"We left a few shots out there today and we had a few big numbers that we were able to avoid in the first round but all-in-all the girls continued to battle and kept themselves in the top part of the field," Middle Tennessee Head Coach Chris Adams said. "We have played hard enough the first two days that we have a chance to finish strong and have a good finish at the Championships and that's our goal."

Seniors Leigh Wilkins and Mallory Bishop are tied for 16th overall at 9-over 153. Wilkins shot 6-over 78 in the second round. She moved into the Top 10 with a good front nine Tuesday but she was 5-over on the back.

Bishop's 9-over 81 Tuesday comes on the heels of her even round of par in the opener. The back nine also was Bishop's tough spot, as she played the final nine holes at 6-over Tuesday.

Morgan Hale is tied for 25th at 11-over-155 after shooting 6-over 78 in second-round action. Clara Leathers turned in Middle Tennessee's best round of the day with a 4-over-76. She is 12-over and tied for 27th overall. Freshman Karisa Akin is tied for 30th at 13-over-157. She shot 5-over 77 in the second round.

"We had a lot of good moments out there today but we had a few slips, too," Adams said. "The back seemed to play much tougher judging by the scores. We have a good outlook and are expecting good things in our final round."
